Tottenham yet to discuss Gareth Bale extension despite no second-season loan clause

Tottenham are yet to discuss Gareth Bale's future with Real Madrid or his representatives, despite the Spanish club being desperate to offload the forward this summer.

After his struggle to make an impact in the first five months of the season, Bale has now hit form, scoring six times and providing three assists in the last six matches, raising hopes that he could stay at Spurs beyond the end of his season-long loan.

The 31-year-old has no future at Real while Zinedine Zidane is in charge and the club want to avoid paying the final year of his contract — around £30million before tax.

Spurs contribute less than half of his reported £600,000-a-week wages and the deal does not include the option of a further year, so they would have to renegotiate with Real and Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, to keep him.

Barnett has raised the possibility that Bale could stay for longer, but chairman Daniel Levy is yet to hold any discussions.

Real are reportedly eager to offload Bale to fund a deal for Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland in the summer.
