Ryan Mason will take charge of Tottenham for the first time tonight as they face Southampton in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho’s 17 months as Spurs boss ended with his firing on Monday, and it was announced that former club midfielder Mason would take over until the end of the campaign, against a backdrop of criticism over Tottenham’s participation in the planned European Super League.

This Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City is arguably the biggest match in what’s left of Spurs’ season, but with the club seventh in the top flight they cannot afford to underestimate the Saints in north London tonight.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team are in mixed form and suffered a heartbreaking FA Cup semi-final defeat by Leicester at the weekend, but they still have a lot to play for, with relegation unlikely but not entirely off the cards just yet.
