Tottenham vs Chelsea: Prediction, kick off time, team news, TV, live stream, h2h results, latest odds today

 (ES Composite)
(ES Composite)

This match takes on greater significance for both clubs, but especially the home side, after the sad news this morning of the passing of Jimmy Greaves at the age of 81. The 1966 World Cup winner remains Tottenham’s record goal scorer with 266 in 379 appearances. However, he began his career with Chelsea - scoring against Tottenham on debut - registering 132 goals in 169 matches.

There will no doubt be a special pre-match build up but once the final whistle goes all thoughts will turn to securing three points in a crucial London derby that sees two clubs arriving come from different trajectories.

Chelsea are flying. They began this weekend joint top of the league, are buoyed by a win in the opening round of the Champions League and in Romelu Lukaku have one of the in-form strikers in world football.

Tottenham are riding a contrasting wave. Since their victory over Manchester City in their first league match of the season, new boss Nuno Espirito Santo has seen his side limp to 1-0 wins over Wolves and Watford, get battered 3-0 by Crystal Palace and escape with a 2-2 draw against Rennes in the Europa Conference League. Further hampering the manager’s mood are injuries to Luca Moura and Steven Bergwijn, as well as the relatively sub par performances of Harry Kane.

All that would suggest a straight forward Chelsea win. But this is a London derby charged with empotion. And Tottenham proved against the champions that they’re capable of an upset.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Tottenham vs Chelsea is scheduled for a 4:30pm BST kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London today.

Where to watch Tottenham vs Chelsea

TV channel: The match will be televised on Sky Sports Premier League and Main Event.

Live stream: Sky Sports Sport subscribers will be able to watch the match online via the website or Sky Sports app.

Tottenham vs Chelsea team news

Watching Bergwijn and Moura limp off the field against Rennes would have sent a cold shiver down the spines of most Spurs fans, but there is some good news as both Son Heung-min and Eric Dier are both ‘hopeful’ - according to reports - of featuring this afternoon.

Another positive comes in the shape of Tanguy Ndombele who put in a commanding performance from midfield on Thursday night. He didn’t last the 90 minutes but Nuno might be tempted to start him again.

N’Golo Kante is in a race against time the game. The dynamic Frenchman has had a stop-start run this campaign and has yet to fully recover from the ankle knock he picked up in the draw agains Liverpool in August.

Christian Pulisic is also a doubt after the American came off an hour into USA’s 4-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Honduras last week. He too has experienced a disjointed campaign so far after being ruled out of his side’s matches with Arsenal and Liverpool when he tested positive for COVID-19.

Tottenham vs Chelsea prediction

It’s partly true that form goes out the window in big derby games but to completely disregard recent history would be foolish. Chelsea appear indomitable and are rightly considered one of the best teams in Europe. Tottenham have looked like a side in transition and have produced performances that have hardly inspired confidence.

Tottenham 0-2 Chelsea

Head to head (h2h) history and results

They’ve played 58 Premier League matches against each other with Chelsea winning 31 and Spurs just the seven. Chelsea are unbeaten in the five most recent league meetings. Last year one goal was scored in 180 minutes of football courtesy of a Jorginho penalty as Chelsea won 1-0 at Tottenham.
