Topsy Ojo column: Women’s Six Nations final gives nod to future of game

The Women’s Six Nations reaches its Super Saturday conclusion this weekend and we’re in for an exciting finale.

It’s the final we were probably expecting between England and France. The Red Roses will go in as favourites, but they’ll know how hard the game at the Twickenham Stoop will be.

The spine of England’s pack - Lark Davies, Abbie Ward and Poppy Cleall - will be key in the battle up front and creating opportunities for their lethal backs.

With Emily Scarratt alongside wings Abby Dow and Jess Breach, there is plenty of firepower to take on this dangerous France team.

Despite the COVID disruption, it’s actually been great for the women’s teams to have their own window for the Six Nations.

Their skill and talent has been on display for everyone to see and with the final on BBC Two, millions of eyes will rightly be on them.

The women’s game is only going to get more popular with the World Cup and the global WXV league on the horizon. Increased investment, sponsorship and visibility are needed to keep things progressing and Saturday’s final will no doubt show just what’s possible when the right pieces start to get put in place.
