Aussie workers can rake in more than $200,000 by getting a job in these lucrative professions. New data from employment platform SEEK has revealed the highest-paying jobs in Australia for workers right now, based on advertised salaries.

Psychiatrists topped the list of earners with average salaries of $236,055. Salaries for the in-demand profession have increased 6.58 per cent over the last year which is higher than average annual 4.1 per cent wage growth.

Construction project directors came in second with average salaries of $232,682, SEEK found, however they have experienced weaker salary growth at 3.73 per cent. General practitioners were third at $232,450, but salaries grew just 0.14 per cent over the 12 months to June 2024.

SEEK head of ANZ market data and customer analytics Leigh Broderick said salary continued to be “top of mind” for many Aussies given the current challenging economic conditions.

“When there is demand in key industry sectors, such as healthcare and manufacturing, we typically see this have a positive correlation to pay packets,” Broderick said.

Full-time workers are now earning $1,923.40 per week on average, or $100,016 per year, according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data.

Finder personal finance expert Sarah Megginson told Yahoo Finance the rising cost of living meant a once-attractive six-figure salary wasn’t going as far as it used to.

"I definitely think earning $100,000 is not what it was cracked up to be a few years ago,” she said.

Mining was the highest-paid industry overall, with average weekly earnings for full-time staff of $3,015 or $156,780 per year.

Information media and technology was next best at $2,437 per week or $126,724 per year, followed by financial and insurance services at $2,283 per week or $118,716 per year.
