Toll signs up for Brighton hub

The first tenant at TasRail's Brighton transport hub is expected to be operating by early 2014.

Toll has confirmed its signed a 20-year lease with TasRail, the first big tenant to commit at the $71 million site.

The company is expected to file a development application with the Brighton Council early next year.

The new site will reduce the round trip from Burnie to southern Tasmania by about four hours and deliver cost savings.

Infrastructure Minister David O'Byrne would not detail the terms of the agreement because of commercial confidentiality, but says negotiations are continuing with other lease holders.

"It's not about coaxing, it's about making sure we can realise the potential of that site," he said.

"When you have leases you have a legal obligation that you have to see through and we're in negotiations with other occupants so we can transition out of that site so it can be remediated and prepared for investment."
