If you’re looking to add a pop of color to your hair or if you’ve steered clear of hair dyes due to harsh chemicals, this TikTok hack might be the perfect solution.

In The Know’s Lisa Azcona tried out a trick she saw from TikTok user, @samaanthaxo. With a highly pigmented eye shadow, TikTokers swear you can temporarily dye your hair — even if it’s already super dark. Lisa, who has long dark hair, knew she’d be the perfect candidate to test out this beauty secret.

“TikTokers are claiming it’s the simplest way to add some flare to your hair,” Lisa said. “I’ve never actually dyed my hair so this honestly seems like a lot of fun.”

First, Lisa sectioned off the parts of her hair she wanted to color using a few bobby pins.

“Then grab a bright colored eye shadow in a shade like pink and press it against your hair,” Lisa said.

She used Make Up Forever’s Artist Color Shadow in a matte neon pink.

Beware, eye shadow is probably going to get all over your hands and possibly your forehead. But you can just wipe it away after.

“Once you’re done, spritz some hair spray onto the colored strands to set the look,” she said.

Lisa used John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold hair spray.

Gift Guides: The perfect gift for your fitness-obsessed friends:

“I love that this hack lets you repurpose eye shadows that are already lying around in your room. The best part is that it’s not permanent and will wash off the next time you take a shower,” Lisa said.

The TikTok hack worked great on Lisa’s hair and was surprisingly pigmented. The neon was only a little toned down but still provided punchy magenta highlights.

“I think it’s awesome that you don’t have to put any harsh chemicals in your hair to get a little pop of color,” Lisa added.
