TikTokers stunned by behind-the-scenes look at how candy canes are made

Hammond’s Candies makes a lot of your favorite Christmas confections like taffy, caramels and licorice.

The Denver-based company regularly regales its TikTok followers with videos that show how its treats are made — and they’re so mesmerizing. One video, set to Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock,” showed how Hammond’s makes its Christmas candy canes.

The arduous process is quite compelling to watch and scored a whopping 13.8 million views on TikTok.

Gift Guides: The perfect gift for the budding chef in your life:

In the clip, a worker cut, colored, cooled, pulled and shaped a slab of melted sugar into the colorful cherry candy canes we’ve come to know and love.

Many TikTok users had no idea this kind of work went into making the holiday staple.

“I didn’t know they were made like this,” one person said.

“I’ve been eating that for nine years of my life,” another wrote.

“Why do I have the urge to quit my job and learn to make candy for the rest of my life?” another asked.

Gift ideas for the retro lover:

According to Insider, Hammond’s uses a blend sugar, water and corn syrup melted in a copper pot to create most of its candies.

“We cook it to 320 to 325 degrees Fahrenheit depending on what we’re making,” operations manager Kammy Stucker told Insider. “Once it’s cooked to that temperature, we pour it on steel cooling tables. We can adjust that heat of the candy based on hot and cold running water underneath the tables.”
