TikToker's audition to be 'the next SNL cast member' gets mixed reactions: 'I think he’ll improve the show'

Can a TikToker be the next SNL cast member? An ambitious musician is stepping up to the challenge.

TikTok user Jake Novak shared his now-viral “audition” song on the app. Throughout the song, Novak attempts to persuade the public (and Lorne Michaels himself) of why he should be the newest addition to Saturday Night Live by showing off his various theatrical talents. The video has received over 3.7 million views and 120,000 likes.

4 mortgage truths that may surprise you

“Dear Mr. Michaels / Won’t you give me a chance?” Novak sang. “I’ll write, I’ll perform, I’ll sweep the stage / But whatever it is / I’m ready to do it in Studio 8H!”

Novak’s bold audition tape struck a chord with viewers across TikTok. Some questioned whether his comedic style would be the right match for SNL.

“I feel like this hurts your chances, lol,” a TikToker commented.

“Is this satire?” someone asked.

Other TikTokers argued that Novak’s comedy was the right fit for the show’s “millennial-core” humor.

“Ironically, the most SNL thing to do would be to actually hire him after this. The show is at that level,” a TikToker wrote.

“This is camp. Y’all just don’t get it,” another said.

Novak posted his original audition clip on June 15; however, TikTok users noticed he hasn’t posted on any social media platforms since his SNL video went viral. Some TikTokers are concerned about Novak’s well-being due to his post’s many negative comments.

“It’s been like 3 weeks. Has anyone checked on bro?” TikToker @iheartbino wrote.

“So many people on TikTok try to be bad on purpose for clout, and the fact that this guy has stopped uploading means he was being completely sincere,” someone commented.

TikToker Marisol has a theory on Novak’s possible whereabouts. What if SNL staff got in touch with Novak?

“You know how drag queens stop posting to social media when they get chosen for Drag Racewhat if Jake was actually casted for SNL, and that’s why he hasn’t posted in over 2 weeks?” Marisol wrote in the caption.

“It would be the funniest thing SNL has done in years,” a TikTok user replied.

Amid the backlash Novak has received, there are still TikTokers lobbying for his SNL casting. Novak’s followers are taking to SNL‘s official TikTok page to comment in support of Novak.

“Can you hire Jake Novak? I think he’ll improve the show,” someone commented on an SNL TikTok post from late May.

“You should hire Jake Novak! When it comes to comedy songs, he’s ‘been killing it,” another chimed in.
