TikTok user reveals ‘super helpful’ iPhone hack for blocking spam messages: ‘I needed this’

A TikTok user is going viral after sharing his hack for how to report spam texts on an iPhone.

TikTok has long been a home for surprising and helpful iPhone hacks. In the past, users have shared their tricks for “disguising” apps, screenshotting full web pages and “secretly” recording conversations.

This latest tip, from user @kadama, offers a potential solution for a very annoying iPhone issue: spam texts.

In his video, @kadama shows how to report spam texts on an iPhone in just a few quick steps.

To start, the TikToker pulls up a text on his iPhone. Then, he selects the message by holding his finger on it, then clicks the “more” button when the text options appear. From there, he clicks the arrow icon in the bottom right-hand corner. That button allows iPhone users to forward a message to another number.

From there, @kadama sends the spam message to the number 7726. He promptly receives a confirmation message saying that the spam has been reported.

“This will report it as spam and you’ll never be bothered again,” @kadama claims in his video.

As it turns out, this is less of an iPhone hack and more of a phone service hack. 7726 is actually an official number set up by the Federal Trade Commission (on an old-school phone keyboard, the numbers literally spell “SPAM”).

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) asks that anyone receiving spam texts reports the number using the text hotline, or by going to ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

TikTok users were largely unaware of the feature, and many were grateful. Some called the hack “great” or “super helpful.”

“I needed this,” one user wrote.

“Thank you so much for sharing this,” another added.

“I have so many numbers to send it’s not even funny!” another wrote.

Some users were more skeptical. A few commenters wrote that reporting spam was almost pointless.

“But they just keep changing the number,” one user wrote.
