thredUP is hosting a climate-positive concert during Coachella

In honor of Earth Day, thredUP will bring thrifting to Coachella this year with its installation, the “Tunnel of Pre-Loved.”

Biden's executive order on cryptocurrency – here's what it means for you

The “trash to treasure” exhibit was created using over 1,000 pounds of pre-owned clothing. Damaged and unsellable clothes were transformed into a sustainable and immersive art installation at the Santa Monica Place shopping center in Los Angeles. thredUP hopes the work of art will show consumers “just how much life is left in the clothes we discard.”

See this tiny New York apartment get an impressive redesign in one day with a $1,000 budget:

The “Tunnel of Pre-Loved” will also be the backdrop to indie artist Laufey’s concert performance. But there is one caveat if you want to see Laufey’s set: You must pledge to barter one new purchase to gain access.

That may sound a little fishy, but data from thredUP shows that festivals are a huge source of single-use fashion, where people buy clothes and accessories to only wear once.

About 42% of festival-goers (roughly 26.9 million outfits) say they plan to buy a new festival outfit, while one in three of those shoppers say they’ll only wear it once. If everyone thrifted their festival outfits this year, it would save 940 million pounds of CO2 emissions, the same as removing 564 million cars from the road.

“We created a unique ‘thrifters only’ concert experience at the intersection of Coachella and Earth Week in an effort to combat single-use fashion waste,” said Erin Wallace, thredUP’s vice president of integrated marketing. “Choosing used should be celebrated, and we hope to inspire festival-goers and shoppers alike to thrift more and waste less.”
