Forget about late night love sessions or an early morning wake up call, experts have revealed the best time of day to have sex is actually in the afternoon.
Proving “afternoon delight” isn’t just a catchy tune Will Ferrell busts out in Anchorman, 3pm is said to be the best time for heterosexual couples to get it on.
According to hormone expert Alisa Vitti, the afternoon sees women's cortisol levels on the up which makes them more energetic, while men have higher levels of oestrogen leading them to be more emotionally in tune with their lady friend.
Experts say it's a bit of a compromise. Men produce testosterone while they sleep, which means they’re generally more ready to go in the morning. But lets face it, relationships are all about give-and-take, which is why the 3pm slump is actually the best time for couple sexy-time.
“While this may not seem like a logical set-up for satisfaction, given the previous endorsement of testosterone, the combination actually makes men more emotionally present during sex and better able to focus on [a woman’s] needs and satisfaction,’ Alisa told the Daily Mail.
For those who might be busy at 3pm, with, say work, research say the morning is the next best time to hit the sheets.
A US study has found that the amount of time spent on foreplay nearly doubles during morning sex, and a University of Modena study found it’s also the time when couples are most likely to conceive.
