The world's biggest employers

American retail giant Wal-Mart employs 2.1 million people and McDonald’s has a workforce of 1.9 million but the world’s biggest employer is not a private company.

According to the World Economic Forum, the top spot on that list -- often incorrectly attributed to Indian Railways – in fact belongs to the US Department of Defence, which employs more than 3 million people.
