The Aussie home primed to smash record for most expensive in country

The Point Piper mansion has incredible views of Sydney Harbour and has loads of luxurious ammenities.

A Sydney home that's been put on the market could smash the record for the most expensive property ever sold in Australia. Aussie Home Loans founder John Symond has listed his 2 Wingadal Place home for sale and there are predictions it could fetch as much as $200 million.

The 2,676 square metre mansion, which is located in the ritzy suburb of Point Piper, was designed by architect Alec Tzannes and has stunning views of the city and harbour. It boasts four levels, an undercover parking section that can host up to 20 cars, a 2,500-capacity wine cellar, six bedrooms with en suites, and two swimming pools.

The listing is being led by Ken Jacobs of Forbes Global Properties and Pillinger lead agent Brad Pillinger.

“The estate is Australia’s most iconic residence and ranks amongst the best in the world, combining both privacy and space, exuding elegance and comfort, while featuring gun barrel views of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge,” Jacobs said.

The home was bought in 1999 and it took eight years for Tzannes' vision to come to fruition.

It was listed for sale back in 2017 and Symond received an offer for $110 million, however, he knocked that back.

More than half a decade later, the entrepreneur is ready to finally part ways with the home.

“Wingadal has been a special home for my family over the past two decades, and now I’m looking forward to spending more time travelling overseas," Symond said.

How do you put a price on luxury and a view like this?

In addition to the incredible amenities, the property has an entertaining space that can host up to 500 people. There's also a gym, a library, a 22-person home movie theatre and two commercial kitchens.

Pillinger said there is no official price guide for 2 Wingadal Place, but he predicts it could break the $200 million barrier, which would be the most expensive home ever sold in the country.

A sale like that would smash the current record holder of The One Sydney Harbour Penthouse, which was bought for an eye-watering $140 million five years ago.

The most expensive house ever sold in Australia was the $130 million Point Piper Uig Lodge.
