Texas State coach Danny Kaspar resigns after investigation into racist, offensive comments

Texas State coach Danny Kaspar resigned on Tuesday night following a several-month investigation into his conduct within the program, according to KVUE.

Kaspar was accused of making racist and disturbing comments to his players repeatedly throughout his tenure with the Bobcats, and has been under investigation since June.

"Texas State Director of Athletics Larry Teis announced that he accepted the resignation of Head Basketball Coach Danny Kaspar,” the school said in a statement, via KVUE. “Teis also announced that Terrence Johnson would serve as head men's basketball coach for the 2020-21 season. The university will not be making any additional statements."

Disturbing allegations made against Kaspar

Texas State first started investigating Kaspar in June, days after former point guard Jaylen Shead made disturbing allegations against him.

Shead, who played under Kaspar for two seasons, accused him of consistently making racist and abusive statements to both him and his teammates. That was largely why he decided to transfer out.

Shead detailed several incidents in a lengthy Twitter thread, many of which were backed by his teammates, including one where Kaspar allegedly told him and other players that, “If y’all say the N-word that means I can say it.”

Kaspar also allegedly told the team during a drill that, “If a brown man with a turban and an AK-47 walked in, I bet y’all would run as fast as you could.” He even allegedly threatened to have a European player deported if he kept “messing up,” and was going to accomplish that with the help of President Donald Trump-supporting boosters and alumni.

Kaspar, 65, has been at Texas State since 2013 and has compiled a 119-109 overall record there. He joined the Bobcats after a 13-year stint at Stephen F. Austin.
