Is the viral TikTok ramen recipe really as great as everyone says?

The trendy recipe has been drawing praise on the app for months now — with users calling it “delicious,” “so good” and a “must-try.” The reason seems to the hack’s surprising secret ingredient: Trader Joe’s Everything But The Bagel Seasoning.

To see if the TikTok ramen recipe really deserves all the praise, we decided to test it ourselves — by whipping up a batch with help from this microwave-friendly Rapid Ramen Cooker.

In The Know video producer Poppy Shen tackled the recipe, which she also compared to two fierce noodle competitors: A bowl of “fancy,” restaurant ramen, and a tried-and-true college staple, a pack of instant noodles.

How to make the famous TikTok ramen recipe

Here’s what you’ll need to pull off the viral ramen-making hack:

To start, boil the ramen in a saucepan or Rapid Ramen Cooker. Then, throw out that seasoning pack! Trust us, you’ll have plenty of flavor without it.

Next, heat a few tablespoons of oil in a skillet and add some minced garlic. Next, add a few more tablespoons of soy sauce (to taste, no need to measure here!) then dump in the brown sugar. Sprinkle in a bit of red pepper to top it all off.

Then, throw in your noodles — which need to be drained completely before adding. Next, stir the mix around and less the sauce seep in. Once it’s combined, add an egg and pour on some of that Everything But The Bagel Seasoning.

Final verdict: Is the TikTok ramen recipe worth making?

We tested the ramen hack on three main factors: price, convenience and of course, taste.

For price, the TikTok ramen was significantly cheaper than restaurant ramen — but of course, it was a little pricier than a simple bowl of instant noodles. So, not too bad of a showing for the TikTok recipe.

For convenience, the hack ramen obviously took longer to make than instant noodles, and it required more effort than ordering some Uber Eats. Sorry TikTok, you lose out here.

Lastly, taste. Here’s where the TikTok ramen recipe really shined. According to Poppy, the hack ramen was just as good as a bowl from one of her favorite restaurants. The flavor was certainly different, but delicious all the same.
