Tennessee AD Phillip Fulmer: 'Before long we’ll be taking a bite out of everybody we play’s ass'

Tennessee had a really good National Signing Day. And former coach and current athletic director Phillip Fulmer was very excited.

Fulmer proclaimed Wednesday night that Tennessee was “back.” Then he went a step further.

“The Vols are back,” Fulmer said with a dramatic pause. “And before long we’ll be taking a bite out of everybody we play’s ass.”

Watch your hindquarters for biting Tennessee players, SEC opponents.

On a serious note, Tennessee had a really good 2020 recruiting cycle and ended up at No. 7 in Rivals’ team rankings. Tennessee signed 23 players in the class, including five-star quarterback Harrison Bailey. The Georgia native is the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the recruiting class and the No. 30 player in the class overall.

He fills a big position of need for Tennessee too. While the Vols bounced back in the second half of 2019 to get to the Gator Bowl and finish 8-5, UT QBs completed just 56 percent of their passes for just over 220 yards per game. Bailey could end up seeing significant playing time as a freshman. And perhaps helping make Fulmer’s quote come true. At least in the metaphorical sense.
