Yahoo Finance Teenager sparks outrage after insisting on ‘vegan-only’ menu for her birthday party: ‘My parents are not budging’
A 15-year-old girl only wants vegan food at her next birthday party.
She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum to weigh in on the issue. The teen is having a large 16th birthday party with almost 100 guests. While her parents agreed to provide vegan options, they are refusing to have an entirely vegan menu. Now, the teen is upset.

“I’m turning 16 in December,” the teen explained. “I am having a pretty large birthday party at a banquet hall (80+ guests). I have been a strict vegan for over two years now. I am doing it because I believe in animal rights, and I know what the meat industry does to the environment. I will not be part of the problem. We are catering food for this party, and I explicitly said that since it’s my birthday party, I want the entire menu to be vegan. My parents said they will order any vegan dishes I want, but will also provide non-vegan dishes to accommodate other guests.”
The teenager doesn’t want anyone to consume animal products at her party, however.

“I am not happy with this,” the teen said. “It’s my birthday party, and one of my requests is that people not consume animals for this one night. Like, it’s one night; it’s not that big of a deal. My parents are not budging and saying that not everyone is vegan, and they need stuff to eat. But it’s my birthday party. I don’t think it’s going to kill anyone to have to eat vegan for the night.”
Redditors shared their opinions on the vegan birthday party.
“I probably wouldn’t go to a party that serves vegan-only food because of my worries, or I’d just not eat,” a user wrote.
“If you’re not footing the bill, you’ve got a good compromise,” another said.
“You’re allowed to want all vegan food. Eating vegan won’t hurt most people, and it is your birthday after all,” someone said.
