Yahoo Finance Teenager heartbroken by best friend’s ‘selfish’ birthday party behavior: ‘I have the right to be upset’
A 19-year-old girl isn’t sure if she should be upset at her best friend after what happened on her birthday.
The teenager asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum for help when she got into a fight with her friend Callie. The Reddit poster spent her birthday waiting for Callie to visit. But when it seemed like Callie was blowing her off, she made other plans. That’s when Callie blew up at her.

“Today is my birthday and I haven’t had a great last few birthdays,” the Reddit poster said. “This morning I texted [Callie] asking if she was coming over and she said yes. Two hours later, I asked when she was coming over, she said she had to go to the store. Another two hours later I asked if she was on the way to which she responded, ‘I love you to death, but you’re driving me up the wall, girl.’ I immediately felt bad for annoying her and I apologized. At this point, it was 1 p.m. and she had to be back home by 4 p.m. if she came over.”
An hour later, the birthday girl decided to change her plans when she thought Callie wasn’t coming.
“At 2 p.m. I got a message from my music teacher saying that she could fit in a lesson for me today at 3 p.m.,” she wrote. “That made me happy and at this point, I figured Callie wasn’t coming over. I texted Callie the situation and that I was going to the lesson. It was 2:20 p.m. at this time. Callie replied, ‘I’ll just go to the store and come back home then,’ followed by, ‘maybe next time let me know ahead of time next time if you’re trying to go to music lessons.’ This is not the first time she has done this, but this time it bothers me because it was on my birthday. I’m upset that she’s calling me out for something I didn’t even mean to do, but something she has done to me multiple times. I can’t tell if I’m overblowing the situation or if I have the right to be upset.”
Reddit users thought the birthday girl was in the right.
“She sounds extremely selfish,” one person said.
“Callie was just giving you the run around on coming over,” another commented.
“She has no respect for you or your time,” a third person wrote.
