Self-tanning has come a long way since the early 2000s when Jergens’ self-tanning lotion first became popular. Now, there are foams, sprays, drops, towels and more to help you get a natural-looking glow. The problem is that many still smell a little funky and take at least six hours to develop. However, there’s been a recent wave of quick or express tanning products to hit the market, and the latest is Tan-Luxe’s Express Hydrating Self-Tan Water.
Tan-Luxe’s original Self-Tan Water is one of my favorite self-tanning products. It’s clear, so it won’t stain your clothes or sheets as it develops, and it contains hydrating ingredients to make your skin feel smooth. Oh yeah, and it smells good, too. However, it takes a few hours for your tan to develop, so you might use it overnight. This newer express version solves that problem and helps you get a tan fast.
The Express Hydrating Self-Tan Water contains vitamin C and hyaluronic acid to support collagen and elastin production and to hydrate your skin. To use it, simply spray it all over and blend it with a mitt using small circular motions. After a half-hour, you’ll have a nice glow, and you can shower the self-tanner off.
One big thing to note is that, unlike the original Self-Tan Water, the Express Self-Tan Water only comes in one shade. That’s because the final color will depend on how long you leave it on. Leave it on for 30 minutes if you want a light, sun-kissed glow; leave it on for two hours if you want a deeper golden tan; or leave it on for three hours if you want a dark bronze.
The spray is nice because it can help you get hard to reach areas like your back. It’s also a super fine mist, so if you miss blending a spot, it should still develop OK. However, because it goes on clear, you have to be diligent to make sure you don’t miss any areas. If you do, you won’t see it until the tan develops. Although, because this tan develops in 30 minutes, you could check your body for any missed spots and spray more as needed.
“This spray is amazing!” wrote one Sephora shopper in the reviews. “Quick drying, no stick. Tan kicked in within 30 minutes, three hours and I was bronzed. Was in the pool and at the beach all day and it stayed throughout everything! No bad smell like you get with foam tan or a regular spray tan.”
“This new tanning water is MAGIC!” wrote another reviewer. “My tan develops in under an hour and is the most natural looking color with NO STREAKS. Perfect when you need a last minute glow. Couldn’t recommend more!”
The Tan-Luxe Hydrating Express Self-Tan Water retails for $48, and you can get it at Sephora, Ulta and a few other stores. Get it if you hate sitting around your house in self-tanner or want to leave the house without looking like Ross from Friends while you wait for your final tan to develop.
