Get summer’s ‘sexiest-looking’ air conditioner before temperatures rise

Our team is dedicated to finding and telling you more about the products and deals we love. If you love them too and decide to purchase through the links below, we may receive a commission. Pricing and availability are subject to change.

This isn’t your ordinary window air conditioner. The Windmill Air Conditioner is sleek, quiet, energy-efficient, and, most importantly, will keep you sweat-free all summer long. Plus, it connects to your smartphone via WiFi to set temperature controls and turn it up on your way home from work.

Back in summer 2020, the orignal 8.3k BTU Windmill Air Conditioner sold out within 48 hours, but this season, it’s back in stock and shipping in as little as two to 10 business days. Additionally, the brand recently launched an even quieter and more energy efficient 6k BTU air conditioner unit for smaller spaces, up to 250 square feet. Compared to other smart air conditioners out there, the prices are right on par.

There are a lot of reasons the Windmill Air Conditioner is so popular. But if you want the full rundown, take a look at the list of pros below.

1. It Looks Oddly Sexy and Sleek For An AC

Take a look at this air conditioner. It has a much more minimalistic, sleek design than other AC units, so it won’t be a total eyesore. Its LED display fades 60 seconds after using it, eliminating any distracting blue light.

This thing also comes with snap-in, weatherproof foam paneling to hold it in place in the window (you know, that thing that goes on the sides?). Its double insulation keeps out noise, bugs and even cold air in winter months. That’s right; you won’t have to remove it from your window in the off-season.

2. It’s Easy to Install

The unit itself comes pre-assembled, ready to go, but includes an easy install kit for putting in your window. If that still sounds like too much work, Windmill has partnered with TaskRabbit to assist customers with installation, removal and recycling of old units — rates vary based on location and Tasker, but average around $40 per hour with a one hour minimum.

3. It Quietly Produces Cleaner Air, Yet Is Still Energy Efficient

The Windmill Air Conditioner also has a dual-filtration system that circulates cleaner air. Every unit comes with a washable antimicrobial-protected mesh filter to block dust and other particles, as well as a second replaceable activated-carbon filter to protect against odors.

It also has an incredibly quiet air flow that blows air up and out to maximize the cold air distribution in any room. The original has 8,3000 BTU’s, which basically means it can cool a room up to 355 square feet. And, it’s pretty energy-conscious, meaning your electric bill won’t skyrocket when you turn it on. It’s also better for the planet. According to the product description, Windmill uses “a refrigerant (R32) with 68% less global warming potential than what’s commonly used (410a).”

4. It Connects With Your Smartphone For Operating

And finally, you can connect the Windmill Air Conditioner via WiFi to an iPhone or Android using its app. You can also connect it to smart home devices like Alexa or Google Home. In the app, you can either turn your unit on or off, create running schedules, control temperature, change the fan speed and change cooling modes. You don’t even have to be home to control it. So, if you want to turn it off or turn it down while you’re not home (look at you, being all eco-friendly!), you can turn it back up on your way home so it’s cool by the time you get there.

Yes, there is a simple on and off switch and all the other buttons you need to run it without a smartphone too. And it comes with a remote control. But for some reason, neither seems as fun as using your phone.

So yeah, there are quite a few reasons why the Windmill Air Conditioner sold out super fast in summers past. If you need a new AC before the temperatures rise, consider this one for keeping your space cool.
