NAB - NATIONAL AUSTRALIA BANK - down seven cents, or 0.3 per cent, to $25.67

NAB shares were trading lower after chief executive Andrew Thorburn appeared at the House economics committee.

SAR - SARACEN MINERAL - up 12 cents, or 5.3 per cent, to $2.39

RRL - REGIS RESOURCES - up 18 cents, or 4.5 per cent, to $4.18

NST - NORTHERN STAR - up 38 cents, or 4.3 per cent, to $9.15

SBM - ST BARBARA - up 19 cents, or 4.9 per cent, to $4.11

Gold mining stocks gained on the back of a jump in safe-haven gold.

BHP - BHP BILLITON - down 10 cents, or 0.3 per cent, to $33.10

RIO - RIO TINTO - down $1.34, or 1.7 per cent, to $77.45.

FMG - FORTESCUE METALS - down nine cents, or 2.3 per cent, to $3.88

S32 - SOUTH32 LIMITED - down nine cents, or 2.3 per cent, to $3.76

The heavyweight materials sector - which has proved a consistent drag for almost two weeks - was lower following an overnight dip for several industrial metals.
