Steph McGovern in tears as she closes final episode of Steph's Packed Lunch

Steph McGovern has given a tearful goodbye to her Channel 4 show Steph's Packed Lunch.

McGovern fronted the lunchtime show for three years before its axing was announced in October.

Speaking to viewers as she signed off for the last time, McGovern said (via The Mirror): "We've had a proper laugh doing this show.

"Thank you for sharing your stories with us and being part of this dysfunctional family."

The presenter ended by saying: "Before we go I thought it would be nice to take a trip down memory lane," before a montage of clips from the show's history aired.

Ahead of her final episode, McGovern gave fans a look behind-the-scenes by sharing a photo on Instagram of her cue cards, earpiece and microphone.

She captioned the pic: "For one last time……. today 12 - 2.10 @packedlunchc4 on @channel4 – episode 675. My cue cards, my earpiece and my microphone."

Announcing the end of Steph's Packed Lunch in October, Channel 4 said in a statement: "With audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy," the statement said.

"We remain as committed as ever to our mission to help level up the TV industry outside London and to our 50% origination out-of-London target."

The budget of Steph's Packed Lunch will reportedly be reinvested by the broadcaster into other national and regional productions.

The statement continued: "We will continue to build on the legacy of the show. Evolving what we do in line with our digital ambitions whilst continuing to reflect the lives of, and give a voice to, all our audiences across the UK and hope to work with Steph on other projects soon."

Steph's Packed Lunch aired on Channel 4.
