Stay-at-home mom stunned by husband’s decision right before sister’s wedding: ‘Controlling behavior’

A stay-at-home mom (SAHM) went to her sister’s wedding after her husband forbade her from going. Now, she’s feeling guilty.

She asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum for advice. The mom wanted to go to her sister’s wedding, which was four hours away. But her husband kept coming up with excuses for her not to go. When she went anyway, he accused her of being a bad mother.

“When we first got the invite he told me that he wasn’t going, that he will stay for the kids and suggested I do the same,” she said. “Since the wedding doesn’t allow kids and my husband doesn’t want to hire a babysitter after the one we had robbed us. We had gone back and forth on this. but I insisted on going since that’s my only sister.”

Despite her husband constantly telling her not to go, she arranged for a friend to watch the kids on the day of the wedding. But when the big day came, she discovered at the airport that her husband canceled her plane ticket in secret.

“I was upset but still insisted on going so I went home and got into my car and drove 4hrs to get to the town,” she wrote. “My husband called and was freaking out on me asking where I was. I told him I made it to my sister’s town and he blew up saying I wasn’t supposed to go, even said he canceled my ticket to get me to stay.

With just $1,000 and one day, this Harlem bedroom gets a brand new look:

“He demanded I return but I said not until the wedding was over. He called me horrible, neglectful mom then had his mom scold me and accuse me of abandoning my own kids.”

The husband gave her the silent treatment. However, after some feedback from Redditors, she discovered that the fired babysitter incident was really a cover for attempted infidelity that backfired. In a follow-up post, she said she took the kids and left.

“Financial abuse? Yup. Isolating you from loved ones? Yup. Controlling behavior? Yup,” a person wrote.

“Do you have confirmation that the babysitter actually robbed you? I wouldn’t put it past him to frame your babysitter as an excuse to never hire another one again so that he can keep you trapped in your home,” a TikToker replied.

“You are NTA and if you were in a healthy relationship, you would know that,” another said.

See this bedroom turn into a vibrant oasis after an incredible one-day renovation:
