When you want quality photos, booking a photographer can get expensive. The upfront costs can run well over $100 — and that’s before you even see the photos. Of course, good photography is worth it, but there’s a company that makes getting professional-quality shots easier.

Shoott is a photography startup that offers free 30-minute photoshoots with local professional photographers, and all you have to do is pay for the pictures.

It’s great for customers because each picture costs $15 or less — and you only pay for the ones you want. And it’s great for photographers because the company helps secure clientele, books back-to-back sessions in the same location and pays photographers a high hourly rate, plus commission.

Shoott was founded in New York City in 2018. Since then, its expanded to more than 350 locations across 47-plus U.S. cities. According to the company, its photographers credit places like GQ, Elle, The Cut, V Magazine and more as former or current employers.

“We select only the top 2–5 percent of applicants and screen for amazing technical and creative skills, as well as a winning personality,” Shoott’s About Us page reads. “Our ability to consolidate demand for our photographers allows us to pass the benefit on to our customers in the form of affordable pricing, because we believe that nobody should have to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to have great photos.”

Another perk: You can bring friends, family or pets into your photos — as many as you’d like — without a surcharge. Some photographers charge extra for each person on a photoshoot or extra for pets in general, but Shoott doesn’t.

Recently, my friends Kayleigh and Kevin (and their dog) gave Shoott a try in Central Park. Keep in mind, getting any dog, let alone an excited golden retriever, to pose for pictures is hard. But their pictures turned out incredible. They ended up buying 10 photos — and it’s easy to see why. Check out the results for yourself.

“We had an awesome experience with Shoott,” Kayleigh said. “Once we scheduled our location and time, we were sent specific instructions on where to meet and who our photographer was. Our photographer was professional and did a great job. She knew exactly where to go, gave suggestions for what to do and how to pose and kept the session moving smoothly. We were super happy with our photos — it was hard to narrow down which ones to purchase!”
