Yahoo Finance Sources: Derrick Rose likely to remain with Pistons for remainder of season
Derrick Rose doesn’t want to be traded from the Detroit Pistons despite widespread interest, and barring an unforeseen offer, he’ll be a Piston for the remainder of the season, sources told Yahoo Sports.
If the Pistons are able to fetch an offer for Rose that includes a lottery pick, it’s something the franchise will seriously consider as they ponder a rebuild, sources told Yahoo Sports.
But it appears likely Rose will stay in Detroit with the Pistons, the franchise that gave him a two-year deal this off-season at a cap-friendly number of $15 million.
In his time there, he’s been an example of professionalism and veteran leadership for a team that’s expected to undergo a serious rebuild following the season.
The Lakers, Clippers and Jazz, who could have signed Rose during the offseason, reached out to the Pistons about acquiring him, sources said.
Rose’s ability to create shots and his per-36 minute production, which ranks on par with his MVP season of 2010-11, are attractive to teams looking to bolster their benches. He is averaging 18.5 points on 49.8 percent shooting and 5.8 assists this season.
Rose, while aware of the interest around the league, is comfortable in Detroit and happy with the opportunity afforded to him at a time when not many were sure of his durability and his ability to play a wide-open game.
He had a productive season last year in Minnesota, including a career-high 50-point game, but the Timberwolves didn’t make him a legitimate offer.
