Sir Roger Moore’s son has said only a man should play James Bond amid speculation that Lashana Lynch could be the next 007.

Sir Roger’s son Geoffrey also admitted that he felt Lashana Lynch’s casting as 007 in Daniel Craig’s final installment of the famous character in No Time To Die, sparked "confusion".

When asked if the role could be taken on by a woman, he replied: “Well, then it’s no longer James Bond. I mean, she could be 006, 008, or 009…"

Geoffrey, whose father Sir Roger played Bond seven times, the most of any actor between 1973 and 1985, told the Express: “In the last Bond I think this was the confusion.

“That she Nomi, played by Lynch was 007 and then said, ‘I’ve got to give it back to Bond. It’s his number.’

“It’s right and they should. But if you want to do a female Bond you can’t just call her James Bond. Personally, I don’t think that would work.

A female Bond "wouldn’t be the same” because “it’s Fleming’s Bond. It’s a guy, unfortunately.”

“Maybe there will be a ‘From the filmmakers of James Bond comes Jane or Jemima Bond’ or whatever,” he added.

His comments come as casting remains wide open for who will take the baton from Craig as the world’s most famous spy.

Lynch’s character Nomi was given the codename 007 when Craig’s Bond went off grid and was presumed dead in the 2021 film.
