For a flavor-packed new twist on a classic salmon burger, this healthier alternative is total love at first bite. While grilled salmon patties made with a delicious lemon pepper mayonnaise stacked between fresh tomatoes, onions, and avocado, may sound mouthwateringly gourmet, the recipe is unexpectedly easy to mix and mold together. If salmon burgers are one of your go-to recipes, try this simple, savory, and so-fish-ticated rendition.

  • 4 tsp drained capers, finely chopped

  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

  • ½ tsp kosher salt

Salmon Patties

  • 18 oz canned salmon, drained, picked through, and flaked

  • ½ cup plain breadcrumbs

  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper

  • ½ tsp Old Bay seasoning

Tools

Directions

  1. Start by making the lemon pepper mayonnaise by adding the mayonnaise to a medium-sized mixing bowl, followed by the capers, fresh lemon juice, ground black pepper, and kosher salt, then thoroughly blend before setting aside.

  1. To make the patties, combine canned salmon in a large mixing bowl with plain breadcrumbs, freshly ground black pepper, Old Bay seasoning, and 1 cup of the lemon pepper mayonnaise.

  1. Use your hands to divide and mold the mixture into patties.

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil on a grill over medium-high heat, then toast the brioche hamburger buns face side down for about one minute or until golden brown, before setting aside.

  1. For the salmon patties, heat 1 tablespoon of oil on the grill over medium-high heat, then cook the patties for approximately 2-3 minutes on each side or until heated through and golden brown. Remove from the heat.

  1. To assemble the salmon burgers, top one of the bun slices with lettuce, followed by a salmon patty, 2 teaspoons of the lemon pepper mayo, chopped avocado, red onion, and tomato before finishing it off with the other half of the bun.
