Salma Hayek's 14-Year-Old Daughter Made a Rare Red Carpet Appearance

Salma Hayek's version of Bring Your Daughter to Work Day is arguably a bit more exciting than your average office party. The Eternals actress invited her teenage daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, to walk the red carpet with her and the rest of the cast—including Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, and Lauren Ridloff—ahead of the much-anticipated world premiere in Los Angeles. The 14-year-old has clearly inherited her mother's sense of style: She stepped out in a ruffled black-and-white polka-dot mini-dress by Saint Laurent, while Hayek stunned in a plunging black-and-gold Gucci gown.

Hayek's Hollywood career has long been accented by her jaw-dropping fashion moments—who could forget her LBDs of the ’90s?— but the actress says donning a superhero suit was an entirely different sort of runway show.

“Even the suits kind of bonded us [actresses],” Hayek told ELLE for the annual Women In Hollywood issue. “I’m like, ‘Let me see your suit. What is it?’ And the creation of it: ‘How is yours going?’ It was a big deal already, we like fashion and stuff, but it was becoming an alien, something else. This suit represented that. We were all very excited about it, our suits, and very nervous.”

In Eternals, Hayek plays Ajak, the spiritual leader of the Eternals, a race of immortal super-beings who protect Earth from the gruesome Deviants. For Hayek, earning a role in a Marvel movie was a momentous achievement—and not only because it earned her a stamp of approval in the eyes of her daughter. “One day I got the call and I’m like,‘What?’” she told ELLE. “And I thought, Okay, I’m going to play the grandmother. I never thought I was going to be one of the Eternals. It doesn’t happen. It’s never happened to me like that before without a fight and like, ‘I can do this, please hire me!’ When she told me I was one of them, I was like,“Me, Mexican, Middle Eastern? Me, in my fifties? I’m going to be a superhero in a Marvel movie?”

Valentina, Hayek's only child, is her daughter with husband Francois-Henri Pinault, the chairman and CEO of Kering, a luxury fashion group that oversees designer brands including Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Gucci, Balenciaga, and Alexander McQueen. The couple first started dating in 2006, then announced their engagement in 2007, at the same time they announced they were expecting a child.

To her credit, it would seem Hayek's Marvel role has impressed her teenager. “She's cool, she's cool,” Valentina told Entertainment Tonight.
