Ronaldo leaves Juventus to tend to ailing mother as Coppa Italia semifinal postponed because of coronavirus
Cristiano Ronaldo’s availability for the second leg of Juventus’ Coppa Italia semifinal was in doubt after he left the team for Madeira, Portugal to tend to his ailing mother.
After Ronaldo left to be with his mother, the game scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns in Italy. The teams are tied at 1-1 after the first leg.
Officials initially announced that the game at Allianz Stadium in Turin would go on, with residents from hotbed areas of the Italy outbreak prohibited from attending.
After criticism from health officials, the game has been postponed to an unknown future date, according to Football Italia.
Ronaldo thanks fans
Meanwhile, Ronaldo tweeted out thanks to his fans for their support after his mother Dolores Aveiro suffered a stroke. He wrote that she is in stable condition after receiving medical attention.

Wednesday’s postponement is the latest attached to the coronavirus scare in Italy after multiple Serie A games were postponed over the weekend.
