Report: Jets safety Jamal Adams asks team for trade, will Cowboys step up?

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams wants out. Adams told the team Thursday he wants to be traded, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Adams, 24, is under contract with the Jets through 2021, but is seeking a long-term extension.

The Jets are reportedly interested in keeping Adams around, but the team hasn’t offered Adams a deal this offseason, according to ESPN. That isn’t good enough for Adams, who expressed frustration that the team was dragging its feet in an Instagram post Thursday.

Adams ended that post by saying “Maybe it’s time to move on!”

Whether Adams gets his wish remains to be seen. The Jets have maintained they don’t want to deal Adams and reportedly have not given Adams’ agent permission to seek a trade.

However, Adams has a list of at least eight teams that he’d consider, the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were added on Friday, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Adams is often connected to the Cowboys. Adams grew up in Texas and was a Cowboys fan. The Cowboys haven’t talked to Adams’ representatives but they will “surely approach Jets” to ask for permission, according to Mike Fisher of 105.3 in Dallas.

If the situation isn’t sorted out by training camp, Adams could try to force the issue. If Adams holds out, the Jets can either deal him or wait him out.

Given Adams’ frustration, it may come to that. Unless the team can figure out a way to mend its relationship with Adams, there’s a chance he’s already played his last down with the Jets.
