Gamers react to upcoming PlayStation 5 game: ‘I would totally mistake this for a big budget animated film’

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart released a gameplay trailer that has fans wowed over the upcoming PlayStation 5 game.

The trailer features the two eponymous heroes, the lombax adventurer Ratchet and the robot Clank. As the title implies, Ratchet and Clank hop around to various planets and alternate realities to stop Dr. Nefarious from wiping out all life in the universe.

It also looks very, very pretty.

To the unaware, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart could easily be mistaken as a trailer for a high-budget animated film. But it isn’t. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is indeed a video game and this trailer includes actual gameplay, with all the caveats that carries.

Insomniac Games, which is also famous for Marvel’s Spider-Man, has a reputation for crafting gorgeous titles. Gamers on Reddit were largely impressed by the latest Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart trailer.

“Honestly… This has to be the best-looking game I’ve ever seen,” one user wrote. “Of course art direction helps a lot but this is so freaking close to a Pixar movie while also having all the tech behind it (that fur, ray tracing, etc.)”

“Crazy how much graphical fidelity video games can achieve now,” another user echoed. “I would totally mistake this for a big budget animated film.”

“I know everyone is loving how good the game looks graphically but please know if you haven’t played a Ratchet & Clank game before they are also FANTASTIC and super fun games!” yet another user wrote.

The Ratchet & Clank franchise started in 2002 with the release of Ratchet & Clank for the PlayStation 2. Since then, over a dozen Ratchet & Clank games have been released over the years and the series has become a beloved feature of nearly all of Sony’s consoles.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is launching on June 11 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
