Rare Vegemite jar sells for $10,000
The extremely rare Vegemite jar was released to celebrate the Aussie spread’s 100th birthday.
Aussies love their Vegemite. So much so that someone was willing to fork out thousands to get their hands on a super-rare jar.
To mark its 100th birthday, Vegemite released mini replica jars of the iconic spread in gold and silver.
The limited-edition silver jars, which were available in one-ounce ($160) and three-ounce sizes ($320), sold out within four hours.

Those who were lucky enough to snatch up a jar were automatically put in the running to win a rare, 18-karat gold-plated version of the jar. Only five jars of each size were available.
Now, one of those rare gold jars has sold for an eye-watering $10,000 on eBay, with no other bidders.
According to the eBay listing, the three-ounce jar was number four out of the five gold jars made.
Vegemite enthusiasts have also paid staggering amounts for the one-ounce jars, with one selling for $6,350 - following a bidding war of 44 bids - and another fetching $9,402.
The silver jars have also sold for a pretty penny on eBay. One three-once jar recently sold for $649.99 on eBay - double the original sale price.
Meanwhile, another buyer snapped up two silver jars - one-ounce and three-ounce - for $1,009.
Vegemite collectables
They’re not the only Vegemite collectables Aussies have been keen to get their hands on.
Earlier this year, Woolworths and the Royal Australian Mint celebrated 100 years of Vegemite with the release of a limited-edition range of $2 coins.
Three limited-edition coins were available, featuring a jar of vegemite, a slice of vegemite toast and a child eating a slice of vegemite on toast. Woolies customers could get the coins when shopping in-store and paying in cash.
The Mint also released a $1 coin featuring a slice of Vegemite toast with a bite taken out of it as part of its 2023 Year Set.
