The Royal Australian Mint is releasing a new series of 50-cent coins. And instead of being the usual silver, these commemorative coins will be gold.
The three 50 cent coins celebrate the poetry of Dorothea Mackellar, who is known for her iconic poem My Country. The gold coins bring three of her most loved poems to life - Dawn, My Country and The Colours of Light.
Coinxchange co-founder Doug McRostie told Yahoo Finance he doesn't think the coins will be in high demand from collectors, which may be good news if you are hoping to get your hands on them for your personal collection.

"The mint is allowing you to purchase 10 at a time with a mintage of 20,000 of each coin," McRostie said.
"They are also allowing via the mint e shop instead of doing a ballot which also tells you demand will be down."
The coins are being sold for $20 individually and McRostie said he thinks they will be "worth what they are sold for".
What are the new coins?
The first coin, inspired by Dawn, captures the road to Gunnedah and depicts the light of sunrise spreading across trees and mountains, along with a glistening spider web.
The second coin, inspired by My Country, shows the “sunburnt country” and “land of sweeping plains” and the contrast of the land.
The final coin, inspired by The Colours of Light, features a peacock and radiant flora.
Mint executive manager of sales, marketing and innovation Jennifer Sullivan said Mackellar’s poetry continued to resonate with Australians of all generations.
“Her words evoke the essence of this land, its vastness, resilience and natural beauty,” she said.
“Through this coin series, we hope to celebrate her enduring influence and provide collectors with a meaningful connection to her legacy.”
It’s not the first time the Mint has created special commemorative gold 50 cents for collectors.
In 2020, for example, the Mint released three gold 50 cent coins to celebrate Banjo Paterson’s poetry, including Waltzing Matilda and The Man From Snowy River.
How can I get the coins?
The coins are officially launching at the Dorothea Mackellar Centre in Gunnedah today.
They will be available for purchase from the Royal Australian Mint from today for $20 each or individual coins or $50 for the boxed set.
They can be purchased through the Mint Contact centre, the Mint Shop in Canberra, the Mint’s online shop, or through participating authorised distributors.
