Rare $2 coin worth up to $40: ‘Powerful’
The $2 coin was released to celebrate the landing at Gallipoli.
It’s that time again to search through your coin jars, with Aussies told to be on the lookout for this rare $2 coin.
Popular TikToker The History of Money said the coin could be worth up to $40 if you found one lying around.
“Here is a rare, coloured $2 coin to add to your collection. Released in 2015, this coin was made to commemorate the centenary of the landing at Gallipoli,” he said.

“This coin is full of powerful imagery, with ‘Lest We Forget’ in the middle surrounded by a red circle, and, on the outer, red poppies and war graves.
“This coin had a very limited mintage of 1.46 million, so if you do find one, they’re worth between $20 and $40.”
Other rare $2 coins
Recently two Aussie $2 coins were recognised internationally, winning prizes at the Coin of the Year awards.
The $2 honey bee coin, which was made last year, took out the award for Best Circulating Coin from a field of more than 500 coins from 50 countries.
The Great Barrier Reef coin, which pays homage to one of the world’s great natural wonders, won the Most Artistic Coin award.
Recently, Woolworths and the Royal Australian Mint celebrated 100 years of Vegemite with the release of a limited-edition range of $2 coins.
Designed by Royal Australian Mint coin designer Aaron Baggio, each coin in the series featured a unique illustration.
A coloured circle in the vegemite brand colours of yellow, red and black encompasses each illustration, accompanied by a different vegemite tagline.
The first coin featured a jar of vegemite as its focal point, with the words, “100 Mitey Years” at the bottom.
The second coin featured a slice of vegemite toast, with the words, “Tastes like Australia”. The third coin featured a child eating a slice of vegemite on toast, with the words, “Happy Little Vegemites”.
