Rams place Cooper Kupp on COVID-19/reserve list

The Los Angeles Rams could be without another offensive playmaker in Week 17. The team placed wide receiver Cooper Kupp on the COVID-19/reserve list Tuesday, putting Kupp’s availability in doubt for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The team announced the news Tuesday, though did not specify why Kupp was placed on the list. Players do not have to test positive for the virus to be placed on the COVID-19/reserve list. They can also be placed on the list if they come into close contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus.

In 15 games, Kupp has caught 92 balls for 974 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Kupp’s situation, it’s unclear if he will be available if the Rams secure a playoff spot.

Rams will be without Jared Goff

The news comes a day after the Rams announced quarterback Jared Goff would not be available for Sunday’s game. Goff broke his thumb against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16, and underwent surgery to repair the injury Monday. John Wolford will start in Goff’s place against the Cardinals. Goff is expected to be available if the Rams make it to the postseason.

Those losses come at a terrible time for the Rams. With a win against the Cardinals, the Rams will clinch a spot in the playoffs. If the Rams lose, the team needs the Green Bay Packers to beat the Chicago Bears in Week 17.

While the latter scenario might seem likely — especially with the Packers playing for the No. 1 seed — the Rams could save their fans a lot of anxiety by beating the Cardinals in Week 17 despite missing some key weapons.
