Rams announce new SoFi Stadium will operate with either limited fans or no fans in 2020

Los Angeles Rams fans may have to wait to see their new stadium in person. The Rams announced Tuesday that SoFi Stadium will operate at limited or no capacity in 2020.

In a statement, the team also said season tickets would not be available for the 2020 season. Season-ticket payment plans will be halted as a result. Anyone who has already paid money toward 2020 season tickets can either apply that money to 2021 season tickets or receive a refund from the team.

There is still a benefit to being a season-ticket holder. If fans are allowed at Rams games in 2020, season-ticket holders will have the first priority to purchase tickets. The Rams are asking season-ticket holders to decide whether they want to be included in that group. Season-ticket holders have the option to opt out of the 2020 season. Fans who decide to stay on will have priority if SoFi Stadium can host fans in 2020.

If fans are allowed, the Rams will ask that fans who attend games in 2020 wear a mask at all times unless they are eating and drinking. The team will also enforce fans to follow social distancing guidelines while at games. The Rams expect fans will have to sign a waiver to attend games. Fans may also be subject to health screenings, like temperature checks, before entering the stadium.

If fans want to attend the team’s first home game Sept. 13, the Rams are asking fans to wear a mask now to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, according to the release.

The team anticipates that the NFL will cancel preseason games, which means the first NFL game at SoFi Stadium would be its Week 1 Sunday Night Football opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13. In hopes of having fans at the opener, the Rams ask that fans please join them in wearing a mask to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Construction continued at SoFi Stadium amid the pandemic in hopes that the stadium would be ready by the start of the 2020 season. While the stadium appears on track to hit that goal, 49 workers have tested positive for the coronavirus over the past couple months.
