Quite a few insiders invested in Encompass Health Corporation (NYSE:EHC) last year which is positive news for shareholders

Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of Encompass Health Corporation (NYSE:EHC), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Director Gregory Carmichael for US$100k worth of shares, at about US$54.67 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$61.69. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.
