Prince Harry arrives in the UK alone ahead of Prince Philip's funeral

Prince Harry has arrived back in the UK for the first time since he and wife Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals last year as he prepares to attend Prince Philip's funeral.

According to The Sun, the Duke of Sussex arrived from Los Angeles on a British Airways flight into Heathrow at 1:15pm and was quickly whisked away in a black Range Rover.

Police cars were also seen on the tarmac as he arrived.

Harry was then driven to Kensington Palace, where he will likely stay at Nottingham Cottage, where he and Meghan lived prior to their wedding.

Meghan reportedly wanted to join Harry for the solemn occasion but was advised against travelling as she's now heavily pregnant with their second baby.

Harry will need to quarantine for ten days, however, if he provides a negative Covid test after five days he will be allowed to leave under the UK government's 'Test to Release' scheme.

The Duke will be allowed to leave to attend the funeral as the government allows people to leave isolation "on compassionate grounds".

Following the funeral he will have to continue his quarantine period.

Harry will walk behind his grandfather's coffin alongside Prince William, his father and the rest of his family at the funeral on Saturday April 17.

He will likely not be wearing his military uniform after recently losing his honorary military titles. Instead, he will wear a suit, like Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Prince Charles is said to be "looking forward" to being reunited with his son.

"I’m sure Charles will be very happy to see his son," a source told The Sun.

"It’s been more than a year. The Prince is very much looking forward to seeing him."

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun despite the change in Harry's roles, it's unlikely he'll be dressed differently to his brother.

"Anything that distinguished the brothers in that way, which would be so obvious for anyone watching, would probably be avoided," he said.

"My opinion is that they would do everything possible to make sure that the spotlight on this very, very important day is where it should be, and that's on the truly remarkable achievements of someone with superhuman energy who did so much for the Queen and his country."

He continued, "Everybody knows there is an enormous amount of speculation, whatever happens on this issue. Relations between the brothers, we know perfectly well, are very strained."

Mr Fitzwilliams added, however, this could be the mark of a new chapter and "the beginning of the healing process".
