Many Australians will be queuing up right now to buy their chance at the $60 million Powerball jackpot for the Thursday draw.

The division one prize has ballooned to such a huge amount after it had not been won for six weeks.

"The last time we saw Powerball crown a $60 million winner was in November 2018, when a Burleigh Heads man scored the massive prize," said a spokesperson for The Lott.

“As people are busy collecting their receipts and filing their tax returns for last financial year, many are casting their eyes towards what the new financial year might look like if they took home a life-changing $60 million.”

While this week's jackpot is an incredibly large prize for Australia, even if one person won the lot it will only be the equal-third largest haul of all-time.

Here are the six biggest Powerball winners in Australian history:

$107,000,000 (January 2019, ticket bought online)

"Inner-Sydney healthcare professional, a mum in 40s, oblivious to win until called straight after draw. Initially thought she had won $107,000. Plans to continue to work, she loves her job, and give to charity."

$70,000,000 (January 2016, ticket bought at newsXpress Eli Water)

"Grandparents from Hervey Bay who say they've never won anything more than a chook raffle. Saw 6 missed phone calls and thought who could be calling and checked their entry. Will share with family and favourite charities and will travel once the temperature warms up in Europe and the US."

$60,000,000 (November 2018, Nextra Burleigh Town News)

"Burleigh Heads retiree wins with ticket he bought on a whim. He says he may be retired, but he’s young enough to fully enjoy this prize."

$58,700,000 (June 2008, Lakeside Newsagency)

"Syndicate of four friends working together in Melbourne’s north eastern suburbs."

$55,000,000 (January 2018, Scole Lotto and News)

"Completely anonymous winner claimed unregistered prize after five months and three weeks of speculation of their whereabouts."

$55,000,000 (January 2017, Casino News)
