Yahoo Finance Police decline donations from Antonio Brown, 'sever ties' with former NFL WR following profane outburst
Antonio Brown is facing multiple allegations of rape and sexual misconduct.
But the Hollywood, Florida police department decided that a profane outburst from the former NFL wide receiver directed toward cops was the last straw before cutting ties with him this week.
Brown had an established relationship with the Hollywood police, with TMZ reporting that he has used the Police Athletic League facilities to work out dating back to his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Police ‘sever ties’ with AB
He worked out there for years during his offseasons and recently used their field while he was unemployed during the 2019 season, according to TMZ. He is no longer welcome, according to a statement released by the Hollywood police on Monday.
“We made the decision to sever ties between Mr. Brown and the Hollywood Police Athletic League,” the statement read. “We did not want our youth to be subject to this type of behavior nor emulate the actions of Mr. Brown.”
The statement arrives after Brown posted on social media a live tirade directed at the mother of his children and police as they responded to a domestic disturbance call at his Florida home. His children were present during the outburst. (You can watch the incident here. Warning: Explicit language)
Police turning down Brown’s money too
Brown had previously made donations to the department’s 7-on-7 football league, but police said that they would return that money and no longer accept donations from Brown. He risks trespassing charges if he returns to the PAL training facility.
“We will not take money from a donor that we cannot have our youth be proud of or represent our organization,” the statement read.
Hollywood police appeared to welcome Brown despite the sexual assault allegations he’s facing, but determined he went too far with Monday’s tirade.
Brown played in Week 2 with the New England Patriots this season, but has not found employment with the NFL since being released in the wake of the initial rape allegation filed by his former trainer Britney Taylor.
