Pleasing Signs As A Number Of Insiders Buy PHINIA Stock

When a single insider purchases stock, it is typically not a major deal. However, when multiple insiders purchase stock, like in PHINIA Inc.'s (NYSE:PHIN) instance, it's good news for shareholders.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At PHINIA

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by President Brady Ericson for US$382k worth of shares, at about US$28.92 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$36.50), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Are PHINIA Insiders Buying Or Selling?

There was only a small bit of insider buying, worth US$127, in the last three months. Looking at the net result, we don't think these recent trades shed much light on how insiders, as a group, are feeling about the company's prospects.

Does PHINIA Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 1.5% of PHINIA shares, worth about US$26m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Do The PHINIA Insider Transactions Indicate?

Insider purchases may have been minimal, in the last three months, but there was no selling at all. Overall the buying isn't worth writing home about. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. Insiders own shares in PHINIA and we see no evidence to suggest they are worried about the future. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
