Yahoo Finance Jordan Spieth arrives at the Masters after critical win in Texas: 'I feel on the right path'
Jordan Spieth could feel it as he arrived at Augusta National on Monday.
A win at the Valero Texas Open on Sunday, his first win since 2017 after a brutal dry spell, has him finally back on top of his game headed into the Masters tournament — a tremendous place to be ahead of the first major championship of the season.
"When you're coming in form, it's a good feeling when you arrive here, and I've had that a few times,'' Spieth said, via ESPN. "I love being here. I love being on the grounds. It's my favorite tournament in the world. I've expressed that many times here.”
Spieth: ‘There's still a lot of work to go’
Spieth posted a final-round 66 at TPC San Antonio on Sunday to fend off Charley Hoffman by two strokes and claim the Valero Texas Open title, his first win in more than 1,350 days and 83 starts.
His last win came back at the 2017 British Open, which wrapped up an impressive 11-win stretch — which included three major championship titles and a Tour Championship win — for Spieth.
After such a long drought, that win couldn’t have come at a better time.
"Yesterday [at the Valero Texas Open] was a great day,” he said Monday, via ESPN. “That was a lot of fun being in contention, having the putts kind of go in. As I've mentioned over the last six weeks or so, you put yourself in that position enough times, the bounces will go your way."
Spieth has shined at Augusta National in the past. He came in second in 2014, his first appearance at Augusta, won it in 2015, and then came in second the following year again.
Though he certainly has a long way to go to get back to the level of play he was at back in 2015, and put on the iconic green jacket once again, the win in Texas certainly helped.
"I would say I'm a little over halfway there," Spieth said, via ESPN. "I'm trying to continue down the path of reversing thousands of swings and doing the wrong thing into pushing the agenda that I'm on right now where I can get it to be most of the swings feel like that. ... I feel on the right path, but there's still a lot of work to go."
