People on TikTok are taping their mouths shut at night, claiming it helps them sleep better: ‘I wake up with so much more energy’

Whether you have trouble sleeping through the night or wake up tired no matter how many hours of sleep you get, a new trend on TikTok may be of interest. It’s called mouth taping — and it’s exactly what you think. It involves taping your mouth closed while you sleep.

Though it may initially seem like a form of torture, the logic is that mouth taping encourages nose breathing. This can be especially helpful for people who snore, but there may be benefits even if you don’t.

TikTok user @laurynbosstick posted a video explaining why she’s hooked on mouth taping. In it, she raves, “I wake up with so much more energy.” The video has more than 319,000 views and over 13,000 likes.

VIO2 Mouth Tape for Sleeping, $19.95

$19.95 at Amazon

In the TikTok video, user @laurynbosstick uses the VIO2 Mouth Tape for Sleeping, which you can buy on Amazon for less than $20. And as it turns out, shoppers there also have great things to say about mouth taping.

“Recently I was introduced to VIO2 tape, and I [have] to say that it’s likely been one of the best sleeps I had in some time. I slept through the night without waking up randomly, the tape stays on my mouth, it seals it in a way that stays shut-but not intrusive/claustrophobic,” one Amazon customer wrote.

Another shopper commented, “I am obsessed!!! Mouth breathers Rejoice!” They added, “No more headache when i wake up, no more snorting and no more gross dry mouth! Get them!”

Not every product will have the same effect on every person, but if you’re after a better night’s sleep, then the VIO2 Mouth Tape for Sleeping is worth a try.
