Would you pay $200 for a gold-covered burger?

Most people think of chocolates, champagne and flowers when it comes to Valentine’s Day.

But Perth burger restaurant, The Meating Ground, has just upped the ante in a big way, offering a $200 Solid Gold Burger to its diners on 14 February.

The Valentine’s Day burger is stuffed full of decadent ingredients like double-smoked cheese, truffle mayonnaise, Johnny Walker Blue Label single-malt pickles and a 200g wagyu patty.

It also comes with foie gras worth $500 a kilogram and a show-stopping gold leaf coating, Perth Now reports.

“I am giving burgers a bit more credibility,” The Meating Ground owner Giovanni Pezzano told Perth Now.

“I want it to be a very social burger, giving all the aspects of the burger a special tough.

“But all these components will have a balanced touch.”

Pezzano said he was inspired to create the visual delight after concocting a $5,000 Swarovski Crystal doughnut bouquet for one of his friends last year.

Located in Perth, The Meating Ground is in good company when it comes to expensive burgers.

Australia’s most expensive burger at $388 also hails from the west-coast city. Made for diners at Varsity Project, that burger packed an 8,000-calorie punch.

But the creator, Barbecue Events Australia director Ian McGivern may disagree with The Meating Ground’s approach.

Speaking last year, McGivern said making the burger delicious was the main priority.

“But we didn’t want it to have gold leaf or any of these gimmicks you see around the world when it comes to the most expensive burger,” he said.
