A Park-View Aerie in One of N.Y.C.’s Buzziest Towers Lands on the Market for $33 million

You have probably heard about Ken Griffin’s record-setting $238 million home purchase in 2019 at 220 Central Park South, the same New York City supertall tower where billionaire Daniel Ochs sold his 73rd-floor penthouse in 2022 to Brooklyn Nets owner Joseph Tsai for $190 million, marking the second most expensive sale in the United States. The 952-foot-tall Big Apple address, which also houses music icon Sting, is now offering up another glamorous residence, albeit not a penthouse, for $32.75 million. Deborah Kern of Corcoran holds the listing.

Set on the 39th floor and accessed via a semi-private landing and an elegant foyer, apartment 39A has three bedrooms and three full baths, plus a powder room, in 3,112 square feet. There are surreal views over Central Park from the spacious living room and the primary suite. The high perch also allows views of the Hudson River to the west and south-facing vistas of Times Square and the Midtown skyline.

Oak herringbone floors pop against white walls and a modern, backlit ceiling in the living room. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill the space, which doubles as a dining room, with an excess of natural light. Adjacent is the custom chef’s kitchen with Miele and Sub-Zero appliances, plus storage space for your favorite wines. Satin-lacquered cabinets, backlit Onyx backsplashes, and Grigio Carnico polished marble countertops are also factors in the kitchen’s refined appeal.

The primary bedroom may offer knock-your-socks-off park views that will make everyone you know envious, but arguably, it isn’t the most sumptuous space in the ultra-posh condo. That honor should probably go to the ensuite bathroom, the epitome of luxury living with a double glass door entry, Calacatta and Nero Marquina marble finishes, a steam shower, and a cast-iron tub wrapped in custom marble skirting. As in the bedroom, a wall of glass behind the tub frames a bird’s-eye view over America’s first landscaped park.

Two guest and family bedrooms offer south- and west-facing views of the city along with ensuite baths that, like the primary bath, have radiant heated floors. Additional highlights include recessed solar and blackout shades, an in-unit washer and dryer, and a central HVAC system.

Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects and The Office of Thierry W. Despont, 220 Central Park provides owners with a host of amenities. This includes access to the Residents Club, which has a full-service dining room, screening room, gaming room, an 82-foot-long pool and fitness center, an international squash court, a golf simulator, and a wine tasting room, along with secure private wine cellars available for separate purchase.
