Parents have viral reaction to new photo app: ‘This hurts to watch’
A TikToker’s parents have gone viral after he filmed their reaction to the MyHeritage app.
The photo animation app, MyHeritage, has been making the rounds on TikTok — and dividing viewers on whether the technology is creepy or cool. But this video is moving users to tears.
MyHeritage, a genealogy site, recently released a feature that allows users to upload photos, which the app will then animate. TikTokers compared the app’s ability to “bring pictures to life” to Harry Potter.

Gagandeep Anand used the platform to upload photos of his deceased grandparents. The TikToker animated images of his paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother and then showed his parents — all while filming their genuine reactions.
“Oh my god,” Anand’s father said. “How you did that? Oh my god.”
Anand’s father looked close when he watched a photo of his father move around the frame of Anand’s phone.
Anand’s mother gasped when she realized she wasn’t just looking at a normal photo of her mom — then, she burst into tears.
“You can keep pressing play,” Anand told his mom during the video.
TikTokers couldn’t believe how moving the clip was.
“This hurts to watch,” one commenter wrote. “I’m so happy technology has come this far.”
“I did this with a photo of my dad and let me tell you I SOBBED,” another added.
“I’m just tryna scroll through TikTok and laugh and now I’m in tears,” another commented.
