Yahoo Finance Orioles hire Eve Rosenbaum as director of baseball development
The Baltimore Orioles have created a new position to ensure all of their important departments are on the same page. The team announced it hired Eve Rosenbaum on Monday as its newly created director of baseball development.
Rosenbaum will be responsible for “coordination between the scouting, player development, and analytics departments,” according to the Orioles.
The move reunites Rosenbaum with Orioles general manager Mike Elias. The two worked together as part of the Houston Astros before Elias left to run the Orioles following the 2018 season.
The 29-year-old Rosenbaum was hired by the Astros in 2015. She was initially the team’s international baseball operations coordinator. During her tenure with the Astros, Rosenbaum was also a scouting manager. The hiring makes Rosenbaum the highest-ranking woman in the Orioles’ baseball operations department.
Rosenbaum’s hiring comes days after the New York Yankees announced Rachel Balkovec as the team’s hitting coach. Balkovec will be a roving instructor in the minors. She’s the first full-time hitting instructor hired by an MLB team.
Rosenbaum should have her hands full with the Orioles. The team is coming off yet another poor season, and is facing a massive rebuild. Making sure all of the team’s main departments are on the same page will be key if Baltimore hopes to turn in a Houston-like surge to contention in the coming years.
