Opportunities for US growth: Deutsche Telekom

Opportunities for US growth: Deutsche Telekom

Opportunities exist for Deutsche Telekom (XETRA: DTE-DE) to grow in the U.S., according to a board member of the German telecoms giant.

"I think for the U.S., we are still very opportunistic about growth," Niek Jan van Damme told CNBC Friday from the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.

"One device per household is not where it ends, we see many households already where there are four or five devices, even per user."

Deutsche Telekom operates in more than 50 countries worldwide and has a market capitalization of around 71 billion euros ($79 billion).

At the conference, it announced that mobile customers would now benefit from more speed and data volumes, as well as offerings aimed specifically at families.

"We now see that there's really strong growth in SIM cards, in usage of our products per household, that includes intelligent machine to machine solutions, that includes connected cars, that includes entertainment solutions," van Damme told CNBC.

"So I think... there is still ample growth in the US market, (and) consolidation per se can always happen."
