Chocolate chip cookies are a dessert staple that never get old. While the original recipe will always be a favorite amongst sweet tooths, this recipe for salted brown butter chocolate chip cookies raises the bar, thanks to the special addition of Maldon sea salt. The combination of dark chocolate and sea salt enhances the flavor and texture of these soft, buttery cookies, transforming the basic dessert into a gourmet confection. If you’re looking for ways to upgrade your chocolate chip cookies, take a bite out of this recipe!

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and bring to a boil. Once it starts boiling, constantly stir until the butter goes from foamy to a deep amber color. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for 20 minutes.

  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit while the butter cools.

  3. Add light brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, sea salt, and the cooled melted butter to a large bowl and stir.

  4. Mix in the flour to form a dough, then fold in the dark chocolate bits.

  5. Using a tablespoon or an ice cream scooper, transfer the dough to a baking sheet, placing each scoop about 2 inches apart from one another.

  6. Sprinkle Maldon flaky sea salt onto each piece of dough, then refrigerate for about 15 minutes before baking.

  7. Bake the cookies for approximately 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or until the center of each cookie is set, and its edges are lightly golden.

  8. After baking, remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
